Ecrire avant l'aube

A fascinating biography. Bookshops' pageToni remembers the flames. She sees hers laughing at the foolishness of the owner, who preferred to burn their home rather than to house a black family longer. As a child, she already measures the strength of those who keep their heads high in daily life. Their struggles are the songs and poignant narratives that she holds and which will offer her more than a house, a world to discover. So, she studies the letters, teaches them, creates a new space for African-American voices. Toni embraces a thousand lives: teacher, publisher, Nobel Prize for literature... Her immense work is born from an intimate and collective memory, an ancient fire, a mad love for the language, the one that resists.
